Colón / Colon, Panamá

Colon, home to the Panama Canal and entrance to the Pacific Ocean, is the second largest city in Panama. Start your adventure at the Catún Locks, spot where you will be able to see how the water lifts the ships to the highest section of the canal. Head to the Portobello National Park and enjoy the beauty of its 16th century forts. Maria Chiquita beach is perfect for you to enjoy white sand beaches along and the Caribbean Sea. Along the Achiote trail, in the protected forest of San Lorenzo, you will encounter various birds worth a picture shot. We also recommend you take part in a walking-tour across Panama City, the urban center of the Caribbean.
What you should know about Colon Panama
Without a doubt, the Panama Canal is a glorious work of engineering that you will be able to appreciate as you watch the ships rise through the locks to enter and cross Gatun Lake towards the Pacific Ocean, where it descends again at the Miraflores locks. Head to Portobello National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and find yourself surround by its historic fortifications and the castle of San Lorenzo. Do not miss San Lorenzo´s protected forest which, at the same time, has several trails and both marine flora and fauna such as mangroves and sea turtles!

Although its museums are small, they hold the story of the whole island.
